How do I know if my cleanser is too harsh?
A cleanser is probably too harsh if your skin feels tight, squeaky, hot or itchy after washing. Cleansing should remove sunscreen, makeup, oil and dirt without leaving the barrier stripped. If you use acne treatments or retinol, a gentler cleanser may make the whole routine easier to tolerate.
Should I choose a foaming, hydrating or micellar cleanser?
Foaming cleansers usually suit oily or combination skin. Hydrating cream or lotion cleansers suit dry, tight or sensitive skin. Micellar water can help remove makeup or sunscreen gently, especially for reactive skin, but heavy sunscreen may still need a second gentle cleanse. Choose by after-feel, not by trend.
Do I need an active cleanser with salicylic or glycolic acid?
Only if congestion, roughness or oiliness is a real concern. Active cleansers can be useful because they rinse off, but they can still irritate if combined with leave-on acids or retinol. If your routine already has strong actives, a plain gentle cleanser is often the better partner.
